For many homeowners, photo day feels more stressful than it needs to be. Usually, that comes down to one thing: not knowing what to expect.
The reality is that professional real estate shoots are designed to be simple, efficient and low stress. Once the home is prepared, our job is to guide the process and make everything run smoothly.
Here’s exactly what happens on photo and video day - from arrival on site through to delivery.
Before We Arrive
Before the shoot, your agent will organise the details with you, including:
- Booking the session time
- Confirming property access
- Arranging keys, alarm codes or parking if needed
We also recommend:
- Taking pets out during the session or keeping them contained
- Completing a quick tidy using the 30-minute prep checklist
- Opening all curtains and blinds before we arrive, and turning all lights on (including lamps)
A little preparation beforehand helps the entire shoot feel calm and seamless.
When We Arrive (First 5–10 Minutes)
When we arrive, we’ll do a quick walkthrough of the property together.
This gives you the chance to:
- Point out any features you particularly love
- Mention spaces you feel are important to highlight
- Ask any questions before we begin
Once we've done a walk-through with you, we may ask if you're fine for us to move a few things around as we see fit. These can be small changes such as moving a chair, hiding a bin, or straightening cushions.
These are minor styling tweaks that help rooms photograph more cleanly and consistently.
Once all lights are on, we'll get started photographing your home.
During the Shoot
If you've booked photo and video, there 99% of the time we will have two of our team members on site. This allows us to be as efficient as possible, and ensures we have the best of our team on the job doing what they do best.
How Long Does It Take?
The timing depends on the size of the property and the type of content being created. A standard home will be anywhere between 45 minutes to 2 hours, and larger homes or lifestyle properties will generally be around that 2 hour mark.
We’ll always aim to work efficiently while still giving the property the attention it deserves.
Do Vendors Need to Leave?
Not necessarily. Homeowners are welcome to stay during the session or head out while we work. Leaving us to it is generally the fastest and most efficient way for everyone, however if you need to stay we will simply photograph and video one room where you won't be seen in windows (usually a laundry or garage) and we will grab you when we're all done.
After the Shoot
Once the session is complete:
- We will turn all lights off and close all doors
- Anything we have moved (remotes, chairs, decor) we will put back
- All files are backed up the same day
- Editing begins immediately
- Your agent receives ready-to-use content for listings and social media
Your agent will confirm exact delivery timing based on the package booked.
How to Keep the Day Stress Free
A few simple things make a huge difference. Finish prep early Try to have the home ready at least 15 minutes before arrival so there’s no last-minute rushing. Minimise distractions
If possible:
- Arrange care for pets
- Keep children occupied or out during filming
- Limit extra visitors during the session
- Leave one main contact
If you won’t be home, make sure there’s one clear contact person available for questions if needed.
The most important thing to remember:
Your home does not need to look perfect every day.
It only needs to feel clean, bright and calm for the short time we’re there.
Our role is to make the property look its absolute best. Your role is simply to give us a tidy canvas to work with - and we’ll take care of the rest.
